María

WHO I AM?
Hi everyone! My name is Maria and now I will talk a little bit about myself and how I got here.
I am sure that all of you remember that dreaded and usual question which we have been always asked: “What would you like to be when you get older?” Since I was a child, I have had clear what the answer was: "I want to be a teacher". I have always been interested in the teaching world, the world of children and their curiosities.

For me, entering in class with the rest of my classmates supposed a new adventure every day, and I always responded with a big smile and many desires to learn something new. Well, ok… not everything was so beautiful! Mathematics and I have never been friends… But with effort, I always passed them. Perhaps for this reason, the world of languages has struck me very much.

My mother tongue is Spanish, despite of living in Moncada, a small town near Valencia, where the Valencian is very present. During my years of school and high school, many of the subjects were given me in Valencian, but this language has never been my fort.

My parents decided to sign me up in a private English Academy when I was 3 years old. What a madness!! Don’t you think so? "But if she can just speak Spanish... you want her to already learn a foreign language?” Nowadays, I can only say: "Thank you Mum and Dad, that was a fantastic decision"

Like most children, the study of the second language was alternated with other activities, such as dancing, swimming and horse riding. But English was always my weakness. I have always loved it!

Thanks to this Private Academy, my passport has travelled several times to places where I have been able to improve my fluency and pronunciation in the English language. Living experiences like this helped me to reaffirm my decision to be a teacher, to be an English teacher.

"Ok, I will be a teacher... But I do not want to be a boring and traditional teacher, one of those who send lot of useless homework and with which you learn almost nothing..."

Thanks to some teachers that I have had the pleasure to match, I have learned that teaching must go beyond the contents of the book and even exceed the walls of the classroom. Nowadays, I am studying to become an English teacher in the Facultad de Magisterio of Valencia, and my new goal is to become that kind of teacher that all children would like to have.
